F is for Frustrations (secondary)
😱😱😱
We’ve already talked about how being aware of how we’re feeling is super-helpful. Being aware of when we’re frustrated is like recognising our inner Grinch, it grumbles, it moans, it’s a bit grumpy to be honest. Remember that all feelings are messages so how about we befriend our frustration and find out what it’s telling us?
Actively fixing it
1. First things first. Pause. Place your feel firmly on the floor. Take five breaths and focus all of your attention on your feet. Drop your awareness to the soles of your feet, the sides of your feet, the toes, the heels. We call this dropping the anchor and it helps us come out of our head, our thoughts and root ourselves firmly on the solid ground
2. Get curious! Turn & gently face your frustration, why do you think it’s here? What’s it trying to tell us? How about we just let our inner Grinch be here, just notice what it does & give it space. There’s no pressure to decide anything just now but any decision you do make may now come from a place of responding rather than over-reacting.
3. Finally, remind yourself that getting frustrated is just one part of being human & it’s totally normal! Ask yourself - can you see your frustration as an opportunity to be patient, to be grateful? Taming our inner Grinch in this way can make us kinder, improve our health, increase our sleep and, in the long run, achieve our goals.
Final take
Frustrated doesn’t mean the world is about to end, event if it feels like it… the main thing is to recognise it for what it is and deal with it early doors!
