Y is for You (Primary)

just make sure that you do you!

Today is all about YOU! The amazing, unique, special, one of a kind YOU! Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why you’re so amazing:

* your brain thinks 70,000 thoughts a day & is capable of solving problems faster than any computer in the world

* Did you know that the more you memorise the larger your brain grows?

* 73% of your brain is water - that’s why it’s so important that you stay hydrated

* Your brain contains over 150,000 miles of blood vessels

* The human nose can detect over 1trillion smells & your sense of smell is directly linked to your brain - a lovely smell can make you feel great! (That means a horrible smell can have the opposite effect, sorry!)

* our heart beats more than three billion times in our lifetime

* Information zooms along our nerves at 400kmph

* there’s literally only one of you in the world

Fun things to practice

So, in case you still need reminding, here’s some simple practices to show ourselves just how special we are;

1. Try this simple exercise every now & then - it’s called ‘my positivity pebble’ & it helps us remember all the things that we’re good at! Take some time with your friends & chat about the things that you like to do, that you’re really good at! Sometimes we find this difficult & our friends help to remind us of everything! Think of your top five strengths & write them down using permanent markers on pebbles then pop a pebble in your pocket whenever you need to be reminded just how amazing you are

2. Develop a habit of ‘finding your sunshine’ using this lovely practice. Take a piece of paper and draw you in the middle of it - perhaps you’re wearing your fave clothes, with a big grin or doing something that you really enjoy! Imagine that you are like sunshine in the middle of the page! Draw the rays of the sun coming out of you. On each ray write one thing that you like about yourself fill in as many as you can. Then hand your page over to your friends and your family and ask them to complete the rest of the rays! Do the same for your friends sunshine pictures too Put your own sunshine picture where you’ll see it often

3. Finally, do this ‘special star’ practice to remind yourself just how awesome YOU are

Take a moment and lie down, closing your eyes if you’re able to. Imagine that the sky is dark and just above you is a star - a special star just for you. YOUR star your star is always there for you, not just in the night sky. Feel the warmth of your very own special star on your head, your shoulders, your tummy, your legs. Imagine the starlight warming you, relaxing your whole body. Rest in the starlight, let the starlight give you strength, give you courage. Imagine that this starlight is within you whenever you need it. Your very own special star.
