Mindful Mondays #3 - 5 Sense Challenge

5 Sense Challenge

This week we’re coming out of our heads and our thoughts and getting in touch with our senses! This practices is a challenge for all the senses as we pause, we watch, we listen to what’s going on all arounds us.

When to use it

This can be really helpful for when we’re unsettled and is a great game to play out and about, that reminds us of what’s going on right here, right now. Our senses are super important and give us clues about how we feel and what’s going on around us. Our senses help us be aware of our surroundings and each sense links to a different body part.

How to practice

We need come out of our heads for this one, out of our thoughts and tune in to our senses! You need to pause and purposefully concentrate on each of your senses. It may help you to think of a specific body part to really hone in on what is within the sphere of your perception. For example how do your feet feel like touching the floor? Do you notice the sounds all around you, which ones feel the loudest to your ears? What tastes and flavours are in you mouth? What smells make your nostrils tingle? Notice which sights, sounds, smells, tastes you like or you don't like! Notice your preferences!

To get you started you may want to begin this practice by closing your eyes. It will make your other senses work even harder and will help you focus just that little bit more.

Remember it’s always important to trust in what our senses are telling us, using this safe practice when you are unsettled should help you notice what’s happening around you that little bit more and we hope you’ll find it useful.

Tune in next Monday for the last in this mini course series, see you then x
