B is for Balance (Primary)

Identify the problem

Being able to balance can mean learning to steady ourselves when we feel wobbly. It can also mean how to get balance in our days to the things that feel important to us, for example getting fresh air and playing outside as well as having some screen time.

Fun things to practice

It’s natural for us to feel off balance sometimes, particularly when we’re going through lots of changes. You can learn how to bounce back with these simple activities:

1. Stand up, feet firmly on the floor & sway from side to side as if you are the hands of a clock. Tick - lean one way, Tock - lean the other way, notice how this wobbling makes you feel

2. Stay standing & lift up one foot, notice how this might make you wobble! Swap over to your other foot and notice if your other side feels more or less wobbly?

3. Stand tall and close your eyes. Gently go on your tip-toes. Try not to topple over & notice how this makes you feel!

4. Make a drawing of all the things that you like doing. Make another drawing of the things that you want to do less of. Take a look at your drawings and see if you can get some balance in your days by doing a little bit of everything?

5. When you feel wobbly and off balance, stand tall, feel your feet on the floor, imagine a thread from your head to the ceiling and take five deep breaths - in and out

These practices can help us notice when our minds and bodies are a little off balance. Remember it’s ok to feel wobbly, we all have wibbly-wobbly times. And also remember that there are many ways we can balance ourselves
