X is for Xylophone (Primary)

🎵🎵

A Xylophone, in case you don’t know, is a musical instrument and music is, just, amazing - it can fill us up with emotions, with energy, it can make us happy, it can give us chills! Unborn babies love music, toddlers love to boogie to their fave song, teens connect with a song or a band & even our cavemen ancestors loved music!

When we hear music, it’s a bit like glue, it reminds us of memories, it connects us with our family, it can make us feel all the feelings! Perhaps you listen to the same song over & over and still enjoy it! The great thing is that there are loads of ways that music can help us be more resilient

Fun things to practice

1. Ask your family - is there a song that they remember from growing up, what is it & how did it make them feel? Next time you’re together with your family, how about pop on this song & relive those special moments! Perhaps you could go one step further & create a family playlist which includes all the songs that mean something to all of you as a family?

2. What is your all-time favourite, top motivating song? Perhaps you play this song anytime you’re feeling sad and need a boost or just when you want to dance around and be silly? See if you can play this song every once in a while to keep topping-up those feel-good feelings? Or maybe it’s the words from the song that really mean something - how about write them out and pop them somewhere you’ll see them regularly! Each time you see them you’ll be reminded of the feelings from the song!

3. Finally, learning how to play music takes patience, time, determination! How about have a go at learning a new instrument? Perhaps you’d like to play your fave song? When we focus on things that are hard for us, it can teach us patience, help us focus & keep going even when learning something new is hard! Ask your family to learn along with you and share your experiences together! See how as a family you can all get into your stretch zone. Read all about musicians who had to work hard to be good at their career! Remind ourselves that learning something new takes time, takes grit, involves failing along the way & is so worthwhile!
