Z is for Zebra (Primary)

what DO zebras sound like?!?!?!?!😕😕😕😕

Zebras are SO cool! Some fun zebra facts

* did you know - a group of Zebras is called a dazzle

* did you know zebras can sleep standing up

* did you know Zebra crossings (pedestrian crossings to help us get across the road safely ) are named after the black & white stripes of the zebra

* and finally did you know that zebras ears show their mood

Fun things to practice

So how can zebras help us with our resilience, here’s some simple ways to be more zebra :

1. Turns out that zebras, although they’re constantly on the lookout for threats like lions, are really chilled out, which is a great skill. A really easy way to chill out very quickly is to do something called ‘square or box breathing’, a great way to calm and centre ourselves whenever we need it. Take a moment & pause. Bring an image of a square into your mind’s eye or draw a square on a piece of paper. Start in one corner of the square & breathe in to the count of four. Hold in this breath for the count of four, imagining you’re moving along the next part of the square. Breathe out to the count of four, moving along to the next part of the square. Hold your empty breath for the count of four, moving to the last corner of the square and back to the beginning.

2. Turns out zebra’s stripes are very important to help them camouflage, blend in, huddle with the rest of their zebra pals so that lions can’t find them. For us humans it’s also important to connect with our pals, to feel part of something. We know you’ve found some amazing ways to connect during lockdown. What have been some of your favourite ways to spend time with your family and your friends & how are things different now? What other ways can you think of to connect with your pals, with your family? Perhaps draw a pic of all your favourites

3. Finally, turns out that each zebra’s stripes are totally & utterly unique, just like you! So that, even though zebras blend in, they also stand out too! Sometimes it can be difficult to stand out but how about let’s remind ourselves of just how special we all are! Look at your friends and your family - think of all the ways you’re different, think of all the ways you’re the same! What is it about you that is unique, just like a zebra? Get the biggest piece of paper you can find and see if someone can draw around you! Draw & write all the things about you that are beautifully unique, just like a zebra t this starlight is within you whenever you need it. Your very own special star.
