M is for Music (Secondary)
play it loud
Music is amazing, it can fill us up with emotions, with energy, it can make us happy, it can give us chills! Unborn babies love music, even our cavemen ancestors loved it! Research tells us that music is a bit like glue, it connects us, it reminds us of memories, it makes us feel all the feelings! You can listen to the same music over and over and still enjoy it!
the great thing is that there are loads of ways that music can help us:
1. Think about a song that you remember from growing up, what is it, how does it make you feel? Next time you’re together with your family, how about pop on the song & relive these moments with your family! Perhaps you could go one step further & create a family playlist which includes all the songs that mean something to you as a family?
2. What is your all-time favourite, top motivating song? Perhaps you play this song when you’re exercising or when you’re feeling sad and need a boost or just when you want to dance around and be silly? See if you can play this song every once in a while to keep topping-up those feel-good feelings? Or maybe it’s the lyrics from the song that really mean something to you? How about write them out and pop them somewhere you’ll see them regularly or have them as a screensaver on your phone? Each time you see them you’ll be reminded of the feelings from the song!
3. Finally, research tells us that listening to music that we’ve never heard before makes our brains even more curious! How about try some really chilled music & notice is it makes you sleepy! Or some super loud music that might give you loads of energy! Ask your friends & your family what their favourite music is and make a playlist - combine a little bit of what everyone likes! See if you can grow your musical tastebuds - listen to classical, grime, punk, sounds of the 60s - whatever you fancy! Get curious about how these new types of music make you feel, you may be really surprised!
Final take
Not only does music makes us feel all the feelings, it is an actual fact that listening to music whilst doing physical tasks (such as exercise) helps enhance physical performance!
